Floor wars

•Sunday, 24 February, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Yesterday, I was in Vega for floor wars with my two colleague EVS-volunteers Antonio (from Italy) and Karine (from France). Floor wars is an annual breakdance event where teams from all over the world battle against each other.
My favourite team was the Danish team natural effects and they made it to the final. Unfortunately, I had to leave just before the winner was announced.

Another team which I really liked was a team from Morocco; la halla king zoo.

After a cool weekend and two half days with my friend Karolien, during which she managed to see almost everything that was described in the Lonely Planet guide of Copenhagen, she had to return to the Netherlands again.

Teeaaah-Mobile

After they tried to claim the colour magenta, T-mobile did another stupid thing; they refused to give me my SIM unlock code for my mobile phone for the last four months. Now they finally gave me the code, I am able to switch from provider, which means I can get a British or Danish phone number. Jey!

Welcome in Copenhagen

Saskia in the office

Sunday afternoon I arrived in Copenhagen and from the plane I could see the windmills waiving at me and the welcome only got better when I got on the ground.
On Monday, my first working day, I also moved into my room. My new place is not in Copenhagen, but in Hillerod. A town situated a 40 minute train ride to the North from the city centre of Copenhagen.
I am staying in a guestroom in the basement of the house of a couple with 2 young children. In the meantime I got a pass that can be used on the train in the whole area around Copenhagen, as well as the metro and the buses.
Karine and Antonio, the two other EVS volunteers, invited everybody from the office over to their place for a housewarming-dinner tonight.

Later this week I will report about my work!

Next stop: Copenhagen

Since my last post I have moved to Edinburgh, Scotland with Willem and before I knew it I was back in the Netherlands to graduate for my master’s in Applied Ethics. If you are interested, you can download my thesis here.

After spending two very relaxing weeks back in Edinburgh, I will be leaving again tomorrow … to Copenhagen, Denmark this time. Quite unexpectedly my application for a so-called EVS project had been approved, and I could come to Copenhagen to work as a volunteer at the office of ISCA, International Sport and Culture Association. I will be working on a specific project, the one I have been writing about earlier on, called YOURCE.

Later this week I will explain all about the EVS program and what my tasks for these two months will be. Some minor changes have been made on this weblog as well as on my main website. At last, some photos of my trips to Georgia and Bosnia can be found there.

Cheers!

and nothing happened.. as it seems online. Actually, in real life things happened.

My internship at Knowledgeland, my great holidays and my “immigration” to Scotland kept me busy.

In order to put my photos on the internet quickly and without much effort I used flickr; www.flickr.com/saskiavandenieuwenhof
